Dr. Bemmann Honored With Governor's Award

Dr. Kathryn C. Bemmann has been selected as a recipient of the 2001 Governor's Council on Domestic Abuse Award. Dr. Bemmann devoted her entire life and medical career to addressing the issues of domestic violence in relation to women.

She tirelessly fought to educate women and the public in general, through her numerous community involvements, on the issue of domestic violence. Her passion to provide support and compassion to women in need was endless.

Dr. Bemmann was one of the founders of the Waukesha Women's Center and, later, a dedicated board member of the DVC. Dr. Bemmann's tragic death on Christmas Day 2000 has left a huge hole in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She continues to provide access to safety and supportive services for victims of domestic abuse and justice for victims of domestic abuse through her estate, which provided an extremely generous bequest to the DVC. She is a true inspiration to us all.
